Mayor of SDCC officially opens three Playspaces
On Wednesday 7th of October, the Mayor of SDCC, Councillor Francis Timmons officially opened the playspaces at Balrothery, Old Bawn and Fortfield Road.

Speaking at the events Mayor Francis Timmons said;
“Play is such an important part of growing up. It helps children stay active, build confidence, make friends and, most importantly, have fun. Spaces like this also bring communities together and create opportunities for families and neighbours to connect”.

Natural play has benefits for children in terms of increasing mental and physical well-being, developing imagination, and allowing children to assess risk and develop their coping abilities.
The Mayor went on to pay tribute to the local communities for their support of the playspaces and the work of the Council staff in managing the projects and maintaining the playspaces.
Mayor Timmons also commented in particular on the Fortfield Road playspace:
“I would like to thank the residents for bringing this project forward through the “€300K Have Your Say” initiative and for helping to ensure that the children in your community have better places to play.”
