Lucan Village

Lucan Village

Lucan, located in the stunning valley of the River Liffey in west Dublin, is eight miles from the city centre and accessible from the M50 off exit 7. Lucan’s name derives from the IrishLeamhcán, meaning “Place of the Elms”. The village centre retains much of its historical character, including aselection of eclectic food and café offeringsand a quaint village green.

The River Liffey can be accessed from the village at Lucan Bridge, the largest single-span masonry arch bridge in Ireland. It is also possible to explore along the Liffey at Lucan Demesne Park, which is but a five-minute walk from the village centre and connects onwards to St Catherine’s Park and to Leixlip. A visit to the beautiful gardens at Primrose Hill near the Village and on the way to Lucan Demesne is also recommended, especially in the summer months.

Why not come for the Lucan Festival on the second weekend in September, or see the spectacular Liffey Descent, the renowned international marathon canoe race on the river Liffey which utilises the exciting decent of the many weirs on the Liffey, especially between the villages of Lucan and Palmerstown?

The area is steeped in history, and you can explore more here. A guided Village Heritage Walk is also downloadable.
