“WE DID IT on Project EDWARD DAY’ !”

19 Sep 25

The East- Coast Local Authorities (ECLAs) are delighted to announce that yesterday,  Wednesday 17th September 2025 was a resounding success for Project EDWARD Day.

This marked the first time the Irish based initiative achieved its ultimate goal—a full day without a single road fatality.

SDCC Road Safety Officer Oraith Maguire stated “this is truly historic milestone and proves that zero deaths on our roads is not just an aspiration, but is now an achievable reality."

ECLAs would like to thank each member of the public for putting road safety as a priority yesterday.   As Roads Authorities, we sincerely thank you for:

  • Reminding family, friends and colleagues to take extra care on the roads
  • Driving as safely as you could and following the rules of the road when you were behind the wheel, or when riding a bike, motorbike or e-scooter
  • Watching out for Vulnerable Road Users like pedestrians, cyclists and e-scooter users, the elderly, young children and horse riders
  • Driving at a safe, legal speed
  • Refraining from distracted driving or driving under the influence and always wear your seatbelt, and ensure others wear theirs too

Thank YOU
