🌿✨ Celebrating South Dublin'sNatural Treasures: Kingfishers, Rivers and Community Connections ✨🌿

A huge thank you toRathfarnham Village Tidy Towns, Claire Hamilton and Codie Preston for hosting two fantastic weekend biodiversity events in Sean Walsh Park and Dodder Valley Park, supported by SDCC and IPB Insurance through the LEAF 2026 initiative.

🦢 Birds of Sean Walsh Park: Nature enthusiasts of all ages put their bird-spotting skills to the test at the Native Bird Event, with the highlight being a sighting of the elusive kingfisher! More than 25 participants helped identify a variety of native bird species, including mute swan, grey heron, moorhen and coot, while also tuning in to the beautiful songs of the house sparrow, long-tailed tit, wren and robin.

💧 Discovering the Wonders of the River Dodder: Guided by expert facilitators, over 25 attendees at the River & Biodiversity Event in Dodder Valley Park had the opportunity to identify river-dwelling macroinvertebrates, gain insights into the captivating world of dragonflies and damselflies, and discover the connections between the River Dodder’s source and the rich folklore of Tír na nÓg. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect nature, science and local heritage through hands-on outdoor learning.

💚 A big thank you to everyone who took part in the seven biodiversity events held over recent weeks. It was inspiring to see so many families, nature lovers and local residents coming together to explore the natural world, build connections and discover the incredible biodiversity thriving right on their doorstep.
