South Dublin County Council has launched its 2026 Halloween brochure, bringing together practical safety advice and details of family-friendly events taking place across the county.

The colourful brochure includes helpful information on celebrating Halloween safely and responsibly, alongside a programme of events hosted by SDCC Libraries, community centres, and other local venues.

This year’s celebrations include two major festival events filled with seasonal fun, colourful characters and Halloween surprises.

Tallaween returns to Parthalán Place, Tallaght, on Friday 30 October from 12 noon to 6.00pm. Families can enjoy a ‘fangtastic’ Halloween day out featuring spooky puppet shows, face painting, a Monster Dance Party, a magic show, circus workshops, walkabout juggling, sensory play area, retro games, and much more.

The festivities continue with Spookdalkin, a vibrant Day of the Dead-themed celebration taking place at Brú Chrónáin, the Round Tower Visitor Centre in Clondalkin, on Sunday 1 November from 12.30pm to 5.30pm. This colourful family day out will feature spooky puppet shows, face painting, Mexican dance performances and workshops, a comic show, circus workshops, walkabout performers, sensory play area retro games, and plenty of other ‘spooktastic’ entertainment.

A wide range of other Halloween events will take place across South Dublin, with full details available in the Council’s Halloween brochure.

The brochure also provides information on Council initiatives that help communities protect local parks and open spaces from the damage caused by illegal bonfires.

Through the Council’s Social Credits Scheme, Bulbs Not Bonfires rewards communities with spring flowers in return for organising positive alternative Halloween activities that are safe, enjoyable and environmentally responsible.

Each successful Social Credits applicant or community group will also receive a free pass to Ballymount Civic Amenity Centre from Friday 16 October to support recycling and the responsible disposal of waste. Each pass permits one car entry and will remain valid until Friday 21 November 2026.

As Halloween approaches, Mayor of South Dublin, Cllr Francis Timmons, said:

“Halloween is a time for communities and families to come together and have fun, but it is important that we celebrate safely and responsibly. Illegal bonfires can cause significant damage to our parks and open spaces, place additional pressure on our emergency services, An Garda Síochhána and council staff, and create unnecessary risks for local communities.

“There are many positive and enjoyable ways to celebrate Halloween across South Dublin this year. I encourage everyone to explore the programme of events, enjoy the festivities and help us make Halloween safe and welcoming for all.”

Fireworks are illegal and extremely dangerous. They can also cause considerable distress to vulnerable people, people with sensory sensitivities and animals. Everyone is asked to be mindful of others when planning their Halloween celebrations.

South Dublin County Council encourages residents and visitors to enjoy the many events taking place across the county, look out for one another and help make Halloween a safe, positive and memorable occasion for every community.
