Inspiring Inaugural SDCC Circular Economy Day

Launching SDCCs largest Circular Economy Day, in Fettercairn on 19th August 2026, Mayor Cllr. Francis Timmons noted to residents, community groups, volunteers, experts and the Fettercairn Community and Youth Centre teams that"This event is about much more than repairing household items or swapping out old for new. Today we recognise the incredible power of communities coming together for a shared purpose"

As well as sharing valuable skills, the exceptional repair teams from The Rediscovery Centre and TOG Hackerspace successfully repaired bicycles, vacuum cleaners, furniture, toys, garden tools and clothes throughout the day, to the delight of those hoping to give their items a second life and save resources. 🛠️

Bags of clothes and plants were exchanged to go to new homes and extend the life of treasured possessions. Wildlife images collected by the Friends of Tymon Community Group in South Dublin County captivated visitors to the event. 🦉

Demonstrations were held in the Fettercairn Grow Dome by the inspiring Cheeverstown Group and Fettercairn Community Shed and skilled volunteers from Knocklyon Network Tidy Towns, Rathfarnham Village Tidy Towns and Friarstown Allotment Group showcased true examples of a Circular Economy. 🌱

SDCC would like to give thanks to all who participated in the event and helped promote a greener, more circular South Dublin County. Together with simple actions, we're reducing waste, strengthening communities and building a more sustainable future. 🌍💚
