Kiltipper Park Phase 2 - Competed works boost South Dublin’s gateway to the Dublin Mountains

26 May 26

On Monday 25th May, Mayor of South Dublin County Council, Cllr Pamela Kearns, marked the completion of Phase 2 upgrade works at Kiltipper Park.  She was joined by Local Councillors, Chief Executive Mr. Colm Ward, Director of Services Climate Action Ms. Teresa Walsh, staff from SDCC, members of the local community and representatives from Clifton Scannell Emerson Associates, Tim Austin Associates and ACS Civils Ltd.

Kiltipper Park occupies a unique position in the County, located where the suburbs meet the countryside, in the foothills of the Dublin Mountains. Bounded by the River Dodder, the park provides an important habitat for a diverse range of bird species, serving as a valuable ecological resource on the fringes of a major urban centre.

Key improvements under Phase 2 of the Kiltipper Park project included the extension of the existing car park, upgrades to footpaths and the northern pedestrian entrance, renovation of the existing hedgerows, SuDS swales and the construction of a new GAA pitch and two soccer pitches with associated drainage works. In addition, a winter bird food crop has been established to support the local birdlife in the park. New accessible picnic areas have also been introduced, ensuring the park can be enjoyed by all members of the community.

Speaking at the launch, Mayor Kearns acknowledged the importance of this amenity for the local community and visitors to the County alike:

This beautiful park offers an excellent amenity for walking or running and beautiful views of the city and the Dublin Mountains. The Dublin Mountains Way runs through the park, stretching alongside the River Dodder and then onwards around Bohernabreena Reservoir and through the Dublin Mountains … I am delighted these enhancements to Kiltipper Park have now been completed successfully and hope the park will be enjoyed by the local community and visitors to the area for many years to come.

This phase of the project was funded by South Dublin County Council’s 3-year capital budget and supported by The Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht through the Outdoor Recreational Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS) and the Department of Culture, Communications and Sports via Sports Capital Grants.

Clifton Scannell Emerson Associates and Tim Austin Associates completed the planning and design work on this project. Construction work was completed by ACS Civils Ltd.
