South Dublin County Council Sports Office Launches MarathonFamilies 2020

Whether your family is you & child/children or you on your own or with your dog etc.

It’s all about the opportunity to complete a marathon in – phase 2 of reopening society. (8th June – 29th June)

MarathonKids is becoming MarathonFamiles and can be completed within a 5km radius of home beginning Monday 8th June.

South Dublin County Council and MarathonKids Ireland have previously worked together with primary schools - which last year saw 3,300 primary school children from your area, run a marathon (42Km) in school.

As we find ourselves in these unprecedented times, we are adapting the programme to suit the lives we are living, and the restrictions placed on us.

It is obvious that there are more people out walking and running in our parks and around our neighbourhoods.

So this will give you the motivation and the purpose to keep going for another phase of Lockdown.  It will give you the reason to definitely go for another walk or another run, or just start over –

Again - whether your family is you & child/children or you on your own or with your dog etc.

It’s all about the opportunity to complete a marathon.

Under the government guidelines we are entering phase 2 of reopening – which allows us to travel up to 20km from our home and although participants will walk/ run 42km to complete a marathon the max distance anyone will have to run in any single day is 2km/3km / 5km – so 20km guidelines will allow us to vary our routes if so wished.

MarathonFamilies can be completed in 3 ways:

  • Pick whatever plan suits your routine at this time
  • Put on a pair of runners and get walking/ jogging
  • Track your distance on chart below and we’ll send you a medal on crossing the finishing line……

42km to be completed within the 3 weeks - phase 2 reopening from 8th June – 29th June

Activity Plan:

  • 7 Days a week – need to cover 2km daily –
