Cookstown Wastewater Upgrade Works

There will be an eastbound lane closure on Airton Road from Friday 13th February 2026 at 7am to Thursday 26th February 2026 at 7pm inclusive of weekends. No vehicles will be permitted to access Airton Road from Belgard Road. There will be one way traffic from Greenhills Road along Airton Road towards Belgard Road. It is not possible to maintain two-way traffic along Airton Road due to the depth of the excavation and nearby ESB high voltage underground cables on Airton Road. A safe working distance needs to be maintained. While these works will cause traffic issues in the area, the timing has been planned to coincide with the school mid-term break in an effort to minimize congestion and disruption.

Uisce Éireann is installing new wastewater infrastructure to cater for the future growth and development of the Cookstown area. These works are being carried out as part of Uisce Éireann’s Growth and Development Programme and commenced in September 2025.
