Junior Safety Forum

Junior Safety Forum

The South Dublin Junior Safety Forum is a youth-led initiative by South Dublin County Council, modelled on the Joint Policing Committee, that gives 6th class students a meaningful voice in creating safer, healthier communities. Meetings take place in the Council Chamber, giving the Forum official recognition and are attended by the Chief Executive, Directors, Senior Management of SDCC, and An Garda Síochána and key stakeholders.

Through workshops and structured meetings, students raise concerns, propose solutions, and actively contribute to local decision-making. The Forum emphasises early intervention and addresses key issues such as vaping, nitrous oxide use, and personal safety. It promotes youth leadership, responsibility, and empowerment.

Supported by Healthy Ireland, the HSE, Dublin Fire Brigade, and local Drug & Alcohol Task Forces, the initiative connects young people with vital services and decision-makers. The Forum launched the Escape the Vape campaign and recently unveiled a student-narrated awareness video, Nitrous Oxide – What You Need to Know, to educate and influence their peers.
