SDCC Cyber Security Month Launch
Cyber Security Month 2025 was launched in SDCC this week. October is European Cyber Security Month and this year SDCC continues its commitment to building a culture of cyber awareness, resilience, and shared responsibility across our organisation and the wider community. Cyber Security month is a reminder that in today’s digital world, every click, login and decision taken by individuals matters.
This year’s theme is: Cyber Security is a Shared Responsibility. Tommy Kavanagh Director of SDCC Digital Services said “Over past years, we’ve made tremendous strides in improving South Dublin County Council cyber security posture. From phishing simulations and AI and deepfake awareness sessions to depot workshops and public outreach events, our programmes have grown in scale and impact.
Last year alone, we delivered over 20 workshops, hosted multiple public sessions in libraries, and launched tailored training for elected members.
This year, we’re building on that momentum. Our theme is simple but powerful: Cyber Security is a Shared Responsibility. Whether you're in IT, HR, Finance, or out in the field, your vigilance is vital. Cyber threats don’t discriminate—they target systems, people, and processes alike. And as we’ve seen, even the most sophisticated defences can be undone by a single careless click.”.
So, what can you expect this October?
- A refreshed series of staff workshops tailored to roles and systems with dedicated sessions for our depot-based staff.
- A theatrical production – they say cyber is "drama" and this year we are literally bringing the drama to all staff of SDCC with a Theatre At Work production.
- With support from the Councils Age Friendly team and Local Enterprise Office, public engagement sessions in community centres and with local businesses.
- In partnership with our colleagues in South Dublin Libraries, we will deliver public talks in SDCC libraries and online. We will deliver engaging workshops to approximate 20 schools in the area including workshops as Gaeilge.
