The Right Vehicles
Ensure the vehicle is appropriate to the rider. Find the vehicles that is correct for the age, size and strength of the rider.
Scramblers and quads are not toys and should be treated as motor vehicles.

The Right Environment
These vehicles are designed for off-road use.
They should be used in a controlled environment and children should be supervised by an adult at all times.
They should be used on private property or at designated tracks.
They should not be used in public spaces.
Finding the right environment to operate these bikes is crucial in avoiding a tragedy in our community.

A responsible attitude by the rider to their safety, the safety of other users and to the larger community
A Note to Parents
Please ensure that any child in your care understands both the legal and safety needs before and during use of these vehicles.
Estate roads, green areas and public parks are not a suitable place for these vehicles to be operated.
The misuse of these vehicles leads to a number of fatalities and serious injuries each year. Ensure the safety of your child and the community through the responsible use of these vehicles.
The Law
Certain scramblers and quads do not comply with vehicle standards and are therefore limited to off-road use only.
If the vehicle meets the correct standards and is to be used for road use it must have;
- Registered vehicle with a displayed number plate
- Insurance
- Road Tax
- Lights
- Reflectors
If used in a public area the rider must
- Be 16 years of age
- Have an A1 category driving licence
- Wear a helmet
- Obey the rules of the road
It is illegal to use these vehicles in a public area if any of the above requirements are not met.
