Pride Month

Join South Dublin Libraries in Celebrating Pride Month!

We are thrilled to announce a vibrant lineup of events and activities organized by South Dublin Libraries in celebration of Pride Month throughout June. These initiatives aim to promote diversity, equality, and representation, creating an inclusive environment for all members of the community. Mark your calendars and get ready to participate in a range of engaging and educational experiences!

Clondalkin Library offers a talk with historian Tonie Walsh, who will take you on a journey through "A Queer History of Dublin" on Thursday, June 22nd, from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. On the 50th anniversary of the beginning of the campaign for LGBTQ+ civil rights in Ireland, explore the rich LGBTQ+ history of the city and gain a deeper understanding of its significance.

Tallaght Library invites you to experience "Living with Pride," a captivating photographic exhibition by Christopher Robson, running from June 1st to June 30th. Christopher was a photographer and activist whose powerful photographs capture key moments and protests in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights in Ireland and beyond.

An online talk ‘LGBTQ+ 101’ with BelongTo will take place on 8th June at 7pm. This talk is a gateway to the LGBTQ+ community and covers topics such as the lived experience of LGBTQ+ people today, LGBTQ+ terminology, and how to be an ally to the community.

There’s lots happening for young people too, with book clubs, story times and craft workshops built around the theme of inclusivity. Additionally, on Tuesday, June 30th at 3:30pm, the Makerspace Tote Bag Workshop at Ballyroan invites participants to design their own Pride-themed tote bags and have them printed using our innovative makerspace equipment.

We are also delighted to announce the return of the Pin Your Pride programme for 2023 – collect a different Pride themed badge at your local library each week for the month of June. These are bound to become collector’s items!

South Dublin Libraries' Pride Month events offer something for everyone, fostering understanding, empathy, and a celebration of individuality. Be sure to participate, support, and embrace the principles of inclusivity that are at the heart of the public library service this June.
