Safe School Zone Tallaght Community National School

South Dublin County Council have initiated the Safe School Zone programme to delivery safety measures in front of schools across the county.

Tallaght Community National School were a candidate for such works. A travel survey was carried out at the school in April/May 2025 with the help of An Taisce’s SRTS programme and the results showed that a majority of participants were concerned about dangerous driver behaviour and safety at the school gates and supported works to calm traffic and improve visibility of the front of school area.

Non-Statutory consultation was undertaken for these works from 17th of June 2025- 1st of July 2025. Further details of that consultation can be found here.

Works constructed post consultation period were as follows:

  • High Friction markings on the road at either end of the school front and signage to show drivers that they are entering a School Zone.
  • Coloured high friction roundels along the road surface to highlight the school frontage.
  • New raised table type B zebra crossing, associated signage and tactile paving.
  • Installation of pencil bollards to prevent parking at the school gate or close to the crossing.
  • Associated services, line marking and works.
