Transforming Clondalkin for a Low Carbon Future
The Clondalkin Decarbonising Zone (DZ) is a designated area within SDCC, where focused action is being taken to reduce carbon emissions and support the transition to a low carbon community. It forms part of Irelands's National climate action strategy, which require local authorities to identify specific zones where targeted measures can have a meaningful impact on reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
In Clondalkin, the DZ will bring together a range of initiatives across energy, transport, buildings, and local infrastructure. This includes improving energy efficiency in homes and public buildings, expanding reneweable energy use, enhancing sustainable transport options such as walking, cycling, and electric vehicles infrastructure, and promoting behavioural change at community level. All with the goal of meeting our target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 51% by 2030, compared to 2018 levels.
The DZ will act as a pilot area for SDCC where we will test innovative projects with the intention of scaling them across the county if succesful.
