Sustainable Energy Communities

Sustainable Energy Communities

Are you a Community Group, Business, Organisation or Resident interested in your energy usage and cost,

Energy costs are rising, and many communities and organisations are asking the same question: how can we reduce bills, future‑proof our buildings, and access available supports without taking on risk or cost? Becoming a Sustainable Energy Community (SEC) is a simple, no‑obligation way to explore these opportunities with expert guidance and local support.

Hazel Maxwell is your local SEC Mentor, supporting communities, businesses, clubs, and organisations across South Dublin to take their first steps on a sustainable energy journey.

🌍 What is a Sustainable Energy Community?
A Sustainable Energy Community is a group of local energy users who come together to improve how energy is used. This can include residents, housing groups, businesses, sports clubs, community centres, voluntary organisations, schools, and other local facilities. SECs can be based on a place, such as a town or neighbourhood, or a sector, such as businesses or clubs working together.

✨ Why get involved?
By becoming an SEC, your group can benefit from:

  • 💶 Support to reduce energy use and costs
  • 🤝 Free one‑to‑one mentor support throughout your journey
  • 🔍 Clear guidance on what SEAI supports and grants are available
  • 📢 Updates on new and upcoming funding opportunities
  • 🧭 Ongoing support from early learning right through to action

🏃‍♀️ How the SEC process works
The SEC pathway is practical and flexible:

  • Learn by registering and exploring energy opportunities
  • Plan by developing an Energy Master Plan with access to SEAI funding
  • Do by progressing actions and projects over time

You do not need to have projects ready. Registration is simply the first step to learning what support is available and what might work for your group.

We look forward to supporting communities and organisations across South Dublin as they explore practical ways to save energy, reduce costs, and plan for the future.
