World Water Day 22nd of March
World Water day took place on the 22nd of March this year. To commemorate this day SDCC held an event on the 19th of March to launch a new campaign to protect our local waterways, this campaign labelled "The River Starts Here" is going to put new durable stickers across SDCC's gullies and drains with the slogan "No Dumping - The River Starts Here". While aiming to reduce any dumping, chemicals and other negative effects to our rivers these stickers are also highlighting the forgotten link between our streetscapes and local streams and rivers.
The event was held in Tymon Park and after local students, community groups and SDCC members applied the labels to the drains and gullies they were brought to a newly constructed Integrated Constructed Wetland (ICW) in Tymon Park. The ICW acts as a natural cleaning systems that treats polluted stormwater that flows from the very drains and gullies that group had just labelled.
