Dublin Climate Action Week 2025: A resounding Success for South Dublin!
South Dublin County Council is delighted to announce the hugely successful conclusion of Dublin Climate Action Week (DCAW) 2025, which ran from May 12th to 18th. The week-long programme of events across Dublin saw fantastic engagement from communities, businesses and individuals committed to driving climate action. In South Dublin alone there was 56 events directly involving SDCC, ranging from a Dublin Mountains Makeover guided walk, daily Lunch & Learn events in County Hall, swap shops, workshops, biodiversity walks and much more.
A highlight of the week was our Farmers Sustainability Event, which drew a large and engaged audience eager to learn about sustainable agricultural practices. Discussions on innovative farming techniques, biodiversity initiatives, and available support schemes were met with keen interest, demonstrating the vital role our local farmers play in achieving climate resilience.
Our peatland restoration efforts in the Upper Glenasmole proved particularly popular, with volunteers actively participating in rewetting and conservation activities. The tangible impact of these efforts in enhancing water quality and boosting carbon absorption was a powerful reminder of nature-based solutions in action. We extend our sincere gratitude to all who dedicated their time and energy to these crucial restoration projects.
The two cinema screenings offered a thought-provoking platform, showcasing the impactful Ocean documentary film that sparked important conversations about climate change and inspiring solutions. The enthusiastic attendance of over 500 teachers and students underlined the growing public appetite for understanding and addressing environmental challenges through compelling storytelling.
The mini-woodland preparations were a resounding success, laying the groundwork for thriving urban forests in our communities. Volunteers enthusiastically participated in soil preparation, learning about the Miyawaki method and contributing directly to creating these biodiversity hotspots. These new mini-woodlands will serve as living examples of community-led climate action for years to come.
DCAW 2025 truly showcased the collective spirit of climate action across Dublin. South Dublin County Council extends its thanks to all participants, volunteers and partners for making this year's Dublin Climate Action Week an inspiring and impactful success. Let's carry this momentum forward as we continue to build a greener, more sustainable future for all.
