South Dublin County Council have been working with CoDEMA, Dublin’s Energy Agency, to establish a Solar PV facility at Arthurstown Landfill. Preliminary funding was made available to progress phase one of the project, to deliver a PV array capable of supplying sufficient energy to manage current operations on the site concerning the pumping and treating of leachate. A forthcoming zero-export Solar PV proposal will be submitted to Kildare County Council for planning permission.

A follow up project to develop a commercial Solar PV facility at the site with up to 6 megawatts is at the feasibility study stage.
