Losing The Thread

Losing The Thread

"Losing The Thread: The Cost of Fast Fashion" is a documentary that was created in collaboration with the four Dublin Local Authoritys with funding from the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment. This documentary covers the impacts and effects of fast fashion, for example:

  • Fast fashion currently contributes to over 10% of global greenhouse gases which is more than the shipping and aviation industries combined.
  • Fast fashion could account for more than 1/4 of global emissions by 2040.
  • There is a garbage truck load of textile waste being dumped every second globally.

What can we do to help change the trend?

  • You could challenge yourself not to buy any new clothes for a month, then three months, then six months and so on.
  • You could buy sustainable clothing which is clothing made from high quality materials and which is made to last.
  • You buy second hand / vintage clothing in which prices are similar to new fast fashion clothing, yet second hand / vintage is often made to a better quality.
