Our Land Use, Planning and Transportation Department is undertaking Sustainable Mobility Studies with the support of the National Transport Authority, with the aim of developing an overview of mobility issues across each of the 7 Neighbourhood Areas with a view to informing the County Development Plan policies and objectives in relation to transport.

This approach can support better quality of life in our county, more economic and efficient movement of people and goods and reduce harmful impacts on nature while aiding climate action.

The transport section of the County Development Plan will seek to reduce unnecessary car use; promote walking, cycling and public transport use; establish greater permeable connections and create safe, quality and vibrant pathways to move along; and address the challenges of areas that are not currently served by public transport.

The aim is to achieve measurable and achievable targets for modal shift and reduction of emissions. Arising from the Sustainable Mobility Studies, a pilot project will be identified in each Neighbourhood Area that will be a potential catalyst for change in terms of the shift to Active Travel modes and public transport.
