The inaugural Dublin Climate Action Week (DCAW21) took place from 13th-19th September 2021. Organised by the four Dublin Local Authorities, the Dublin Climate Action Regional Office (CARO) and Dublin’s Energy Agency Codema, the week comprised a programme of online and in-person events which aimed to inspire, share knowledge and highlight best practice climate action.
As a founding organisation, South Dublin County Council delivered a range of events looking to showcase our climate action and engage our communities, through the guiding principle of ‘taking action together’. Highlights of the week included:
- a sold-out tour of the Tallaght District Heating Scheme
- a live panel discussion outlining progress on our five-year Climate Change Action Plan. Hosted by the Mayor of South Dublin County Council Peter Kavanagh, the discussion focused on the five areas that make up the plan: Energy & Buildings, Transport, Flood Resilience, Nature-Based Solutions, and Resource Management
- A Sustainable Energy Communities (SEC) information seminar, providing an overview of how to set an SEC up
- A fast fashion seminar was delivered in partnership with Fingal County Council
- A biodiversity walk hosted by our Heritage Officer
- A circular economy event was held in Rathfarnham Castle Park. The event featured the Rediscovery Centre, the National Centre for the Circular Economy in Ireland, as they guided citizens through furniture repair, fashion upcycling, and bicycle maintenance
- The week ended with an inspiring solar-powered, outdoor, zero-waste screening of the climate documentary “2040”, under the moonlight in Rathfarnham Castle Park
