Community Gardens

Community Gardens

Two Community Gardens were established to provide a space for people at risk of exclusion, each with a particular focus people with disabilities and those experiencing long term unemployment. They are a vulnerable group of people who are on the high risk scale for health issues. Horticultural Therapy is a preventive tool and there are proven benefits to the physical, mental and emotional well-being that accrues from gardening as a healing or therapeutic process.

The garden provides opportunities for people at risk of exclusion; a social outlet, new learning experiences, physical activity, protecting mental health, building enthusiasm and self-esteem.

There are major health benefits from growing and cooking your own vegetables, starting and finishing a project, teamwork, nurturing and supporting others. It gives people the space to remember their abilities and develop new skills. The gardens are located in Corkagh Park, Clondalkin. They are secure and readily accessible to the groups involved. New members are always made welcome and interest is maintained through regular workshops on gardening skills and environmental issues. Local skilled gardeners have volunteered their time to share their knowledge with the groups and the gardens have played a major role in building a strong community bond in the areas where they operate.

New members are welcome.
