European Mobility Week Launch

13 Sep 18

Mayor of South Dublin County Council, Councillor Mark Ward launched European Mobility Week in South Dublin County at County Hall, Tallaght on Wednesday, 12 September.

At the launch was Daniel McLoughlin, Chief Executive South Dublin County Council and Jonathan Roche, General Manager, Go Car.

European Mobility Week (EMW) is a Europe wide initiative that seeks to promote a shift towards sustainable urban transport. The week runs from 16 to 22 September.

The theme of EMW 2018 is ‘Mix and Move’ which aims to encourage people to explore different types of transport within one’s own community in order to get from A to B., such as bus, tram or walking. South Dublin County Council and car-sharing firm GoCar jointly provide on street bases for a car sharing rental service which allows users hire a car for as little as one hour. Car sharing works effectively when combined with other public transport options such as buses, trains and trams along with taxis or for that once off necessary journey.

The Council also facilitates a dockless bike sharing scheme called Bleeper Bike in various locations across the county. Bike sharing is a mode of transportation which allows users to travel using bikes that are available at public cycle parking spots and can be hired from anywhere at any time and may be left at any public cycle parking when done.
