Bologna-Based Cantieri Meticci Collaborates with Irish Schools for Mother Tongues Festival Residency

Cantieri Meticci, a renowned artistic collective from Bologna, Italy, led by director and writer Pietro Floridia and visual artist and designer Sara Pour, is set to embark on a residency at the Mother Tongues Festival in Dublin. During the residency, Cantieri Meticci will involve students from St Aoife National School and Firhouse Educate Together School in telling the story of Uccellina (Little Bird), a story first developed by Afghan children living in a refugee camp in Croatia. Uccelina symbolizes their aspirations to transcend their circumstances and find refuge in a place where education is accessible.

Participants’ work will be presented in an immersive installation at County Library Tallaght on Saturday 17th February.

Cantieri Meticci, comprising members from over twenty countries worldwide, has been at the forefront of artistic innovation in Bologna for several years. Their philosophy revolves around the exploration of uncharted territories, blending diverse art forms and engaging with communities across suburban neighbourhoods, schools, accommodation centres, and more.

Director and playwright Pietro Floridia, known for his distinctive participatory art method, has directed shows and installations across more than 30 countries. Visual artist Sara Pour, recognized for her collaborations with the reputable Iranian publishing house Shabaviz, brings her diverse portfolio of participatory art projects to the collaboration.

This residency marks a significant cultural exchange between Italian, Irish and international communities, highlighting the transformative power of art in fostering understanding and empathy across borders.
