At South Dublin County Council we are committed to equality, inclusion and providing services that are accessible to the whole community. Disabled people can and should expect that all departments have considered varied and multiple access needs when they are planning facilities and information services.
We are strongly committed to universal access. In recognition of this ongoing commitment we were awarded the status of 02 Ability Company by Kanchi in 2010. Our main county town Tallaght received a Special Mention for the accessibility of our Public Facilities and Services in the EU Access City Awards in 2013

At the Council, we are aware that even when we have done everything possible to make our services accessible, that this alone will not make sure that every disabled person can access our services. So we have a:
- Disability Liaison, Access and Equality Officer, that disabled individuals can contact if they need specific access supports, or to whom they can address problems they encounter when accessing services;
- Comprehensive Customer Service Action Plan, Charter and complaints system
Throughout these pages you will find information regarding the many developments and initiatives that contribute to improved access to facilities and services in our county, for example National Accessibility Week, Literacy Action Plan, Access Guide Videos, Jobot’s Access All Areas, JAM Card©, Changing Places and so on. Many of the improvements have taken place due to the implementation of both the Barcelona Declaration and the Disability Act 2005.
